The company BYD has introduced a new hybrid powertrain that can allow a car to travel over 2000 kilometers without recharging or refueling. This will apply to the dual-mode plug-in hybrid cars BYD, which have a full fuel tank and a fully charged battery.
This milestone marks the latest achievement by BYD in reducing fuel consumption over five generations of hybrids since their initial debut in 2008.
BYD has disrupted the Chinese car market by significantly reducing prices even at the expense of certain profitability losses. Last year, 3 million cars were sold, and by March of this year, almost 1 million. For every two hybrids sold in China, there is one BYD, emphasizing the company's significant market share.
In early 2022, BYD completely stopped producing vehicles that run solely on fossil fuels. Now it is increasing the export of hybrids to developing markets where there is no infrastructure for charging batteries.
The first vehicles with the new powertrain, which will enable autonomous driving for 2100 km, will be the midsize sedans Qin L and Seal 06. They were introduced at the Beijing Auto Show in April and belong to the Dynasty and Ocean series, respectively.
