The Ukrainian drone manufacturer "Wild Hornets" released a video showcasing what they claim to be the first-ever drone equipped with a machine gun, utilized in combat.
According to a commentary accompanying the video (with profanity), during a combat mission, the machine gun mounted on the drone also provided it protection. The drone sustained bullet damage to its weapon; however, both the unmanned aerial vehicle and the machine gun continued to operate and inflict damage. Based on the video, the operators were able to retrieve the drone and assess the damage.
The commentary mentions that the machine gun was mounted on a large Ukrainian combat quadcopter known as the "Queen of Hornets." This drone has a payload capacity of 9.5 kg, allowing it to be equipped with various weapons, ammunition, and other useful payloads. Additionally, the "Queen of Hornets" can carry smaller drones that can then detach from the carrier. Another application is as a signal relay for other drones, which enhances their operational range.
The invention was developed and tested by the military unit "Bulava" (the 3rd Mechanized Battalion of the Separate Presidential Brigade named after Bohdan Khmelnytsky). Previously, the unit equipped the "Queen of Hornets" with an RPG.
It is hard to ascertain whether any Russian occupiers were eliminated as a result of the attack. The clash occurred in a clearing, and the video itself lacks clarity. The commentary only refers to the psychological effect: "they were well chased." It is also unclear when the combat application actually took place.
