MSI has published specifications on Amazon for its portable gaming consoles, the MSI Claw 8 AI+ and MSI Claw 7 AI+, which are powered by Intel Lunar Lake processors. The higher-end model features a larger display and a significantly enhanced battery.
MSI Claw 8 AI+
The Claw 8 AI+ will utilize the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V processor, with clock speeds ranging from 2.2 GHz to 4.8 GHz. Unofficial sources also indicate a variant with the Core Ultra 7 256V. The device offers two LPDDR5X-8553 memory options: 16 GB and 32 GB, alongside a 1 TB PCIe 4.0 M.2 2280 SSD and a micro SDHC slot. The choice of CPU is supported by the use of Arc 14V graphics with eight Xe2 cores.
The 8” touchscreen has a refresh rate of 120 Hz, a brightness of 500 nits, and a resolution of 1920 x 1200. The console features an 80 Wh battery, a significant upgrade from the previous 53 Wh. It includes two Thunderbolt 4/USB 4 ports for charging and device connectivity. MSI is set to release the Claw 8 AI+ on December 25, priced at $899.
MSI Claw 7 AI+
The refreshed MSI Claw 7 AI+ will also feature the Core Ultra 7-258V, supporting up to 32 GB of RAM but only a 512 GB SSD, a 7” display with a 1080p resolution, and a 53 Wh battery. Shipments are scheduled to begin on December 1. This model is priced $100 less than the higher-spec version, despite its considerably weaker specifications.
It was previously expected that the MSI Claw 8 AI+ would launch in early 2025 without a specific date, but it is now confirmed that shipments will commence just days before CES 2025. It is reasonable to anticipate new offerings from other portable console manufacturers soon.
