Developers have shared details about the new sci-fi adventure game Light of Motiram, which looks quite epic. The images and teaser trailer showcase a post-apocalyptic world where people dressed in attire reminiscent of the primitive era battle giant robotic dinosaurs to the sounds of majestic orchestral music. It feels strangely familiar. But no, this is not the next installment of Horizon from Guerrilla Games. The game Light of Motiram is being developed by Tencent's subsidiary called Polaris Quest.

Guerrilla and Sony certainly do not hold the monopoly on the concept of tamed robotic dinosaurs or open-world games with crafting elements. However, at first glance, Light of Motiram appears to be an obvious clone of Horizon. It mimics Guerrilla's artistic style and animations, complete with numerous lens flares. One image features three characters fighting a creature resembling a mammoth with bows and spears. Even the font used in the logo and the game's description evoke Horizon—Light of Motiram tells the story of humanity's attempt to "recover from the dawn of a new primitive era."

To be fair, there are some differences. For instance, players can construct their own shelters, and trained "Mechanimals" will assist them in battle. Additionally, there is support for a cooperative mode for up to 10 players. While Guerrilla is working on a multiplayer game, the only entry in the Horizon series that has featured co-op gameplay so far was the recent spin-off Lego Horizon Adventures.

On one hand, fans of the Horizon series may understand why these games practically look like clones. However, it remains to be seen how closely Polaris Quest will mimic Aloy's adventures. As of now, Light of Motiram does not have a release date, but it appears to be a free-to-play title set to launch on Steam and the Epic Games Store. Unless, of course, Sony files a lawsuit against Tencent to halt its development.
