Images that recently circulated on Reddit evoke scenes from a post-apocalyptic film or resemble an ordinary car graveyard, with one notable detail — all the “abandoned” Teslas are completely new.
The identification numbers indicate that the vehicles were manufactured between April and May 2024.
The viral photo was posted in a Tesla Model 3 thread on Reddit by a user named Eric, who noted that the VINs suggest the cars are brand new, and the images display “custom wheels and interiors in mixed colors.” Additionally, rear views show examples of the pre-updated Model 3 and several Model Ys.
Later in the comments, it was clarified that the abandoned electric vehicles were spotted near a Tesla service center in Tampa, Florida, and they were placed in a field due to a lack of space at Elon Musk's main facilities — the overgrown area serves as a makeshift parking lot for inventorying new Model 3s.
However, it remains unclear how long these vehicles will remain under the potentially scorching sun, and whether some components might be damaged by rodents that could be hiding in such tall grass.
Another Reddit user, teckel, mentioned that similar images featuring the 2022 Tesla Model Y have already been circulating online.
