Huawei has unveiled its flagship Mate 70 series, with the Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ and Mate 70 RS Ultimate leading the lineup.
The design of the Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ is similar to that of the standard Mate 70 Pro, but its back panel is styled in a luxury Chinese manner: nylon with velvet fibers and golden threads. However, it appears to look better than it sounds. According to the company, the material is highly durable and even absorbs shocks.
The smartphone's frame is made from a titanium alloy, which Huawei refers to as a "high-contrast basalt structure" (whatever that may mean). The frame is also very strong, scratch-resistant, and capable of withstanding drops. The entire Mate 70 series boasts an IP69 rating for water and dust protection.
The Mate 70 Pro+ features a 6.9” LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 2832×1316 pixels, a refresh rate of up to 120 Hz, and peak brightness of 2500 nits. It is protected by Kunlun Glass. A 3D face scanner is located on the front, while the fingerprint scanner has been moved to the side power button in the new lineup.
The main camera of the Mate 70 Pro+ features a 50 MP RYYB sensor with a 24 mm lens and variable aperture ranging from f/1.4 to f/4.0. Additionally, there is a 13 mm f/2.2 ultra-wide lens with a 40 MP RYYB sensor and a 4x 92.5 mm f/2.1 telephoto lens with close focus capability and a 48 MP RYYB sensor. All cameras come with autofocus. The selfie camera is a 13 MP f/2.4 unit.
Huawei has not disclosed chip details, but unofficial sources claim that the Mate 70 Pro+ is powered by the Kirin 9020 processor. The smartphone has 16 GB of RAM. It carries a 5700 mAh battery (200 mAh more than the 70 and 70 Pro models) with 100 W wired and 80 W wireless charging.
The Huawei Mate 70 RS Ultimate also has a titanium frame but features a superior display and protective glass. It sports the same 6.9” size, LTPO 120 Hz technology, and FHD+ resolution, but it is a dual-layer OLED that achieves a peak brightness of 3500 nits. It is covered by a more robust "basalt tempered Kunlun glass."
The other specifications of the Mate 70 RS match those of the 70 Pro+ – a 5700 mAh battery, 16 GB of RAM, available storage options of 512 GB or 1 TB, and a triple rear camera setup. Both devices run on HarmonyOS 4.3.
The Huawei Mate 70 Pro+ is offered in four colors: Ink Black, Feather White, Gold and Silver Brocade, and Flying Blue. There are two configurations — 16/512 GB and 16 GB/1 TB. Prices are set at the equivalent of €1120 and €1250. The Huawei Mate 70 RS is available in Red, White, and Black, priced at €1580 or €1710.
