Creating even a standard smartphone from scratch is an extremely challenging endeavor. Now, imagine the effort that went into making a two-meter (and functional) version of the iPhone!
YouTubers Matthew Perkins (DIY Perks) and Arun Maini (MrWhoseTheBoss) have accomplished this feat — a giant iPhone that stands 2 meters tall and weighs 200 kg has officially been recorded in the Guinness World Records.
The YouTubers based their project on an 88-inch LG Signature OLED TV, which they transformed into a "sensitive" screen using a large piece of touch foil secured with transparent UV epoxy resin.
Next, they installed oversized versions of components into an aluminum frame: speakers, volume and power buttons, and a camera with three lenses. The last item turned out to be the most expensive, as they used Canon EOS R5 and Sony RX10 Mark 4 cameras to replicate the lens of the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The only component they couldn't replicate was the iOS operating system, so the YouTubers opted for an open Android alternative. Moreover, the Bliss OS mimicked the iPhone home screen experience through a themed interface and made it possible to install Flappy Bird — something owners of original iPhones have been unable to do for nearly a decade.
Despite its massive size, the creation is quite functional — it seems that payments, email sending, and video calls can even be made through the mega iPhone. Overall, the YouTubers' whim cost them $70,000.
Remember, the next big Apple event showcasing the new iPhone 16 will take place this Monday at 8:00 PM Kyiv time. You can watch the live stream on the company's official YouTube channel, while a text version will be available on our website:
