With the onset of Black Friday this week, unscrupulous sellers are taking advantage of the scarcity of the AMD Ryzen 9800X3D by offering fake products.
Searching for "9800X3D" on Amazon reveals at least four listings priced at $199.89, which turned out to be counterfeits. The specifications of these counterfeit items seem similar to the originals, but they redirect to the brand HHNDVZ instead of AMD.
Most, if not all, counterfeit listings have already been removed. The most obvious indicator of a fake is the price — the AMD processor retails for $479, not $200 during this shortage. Given the scarcity, the price of the AMD Ryzen 9800X3D can reach as high as $1500 in some cases.
Not only on Amazon, but also everywhere else, the price, source, and specifications of a product can indicate counterfeiting. It's also wise to check reviews and only purchase from reputable sellers. Any "free lunch" signals that something is off with the product.
During this shortage, buying the AMD Ryzen 9800X3D is not a smart move. The processor itself is not cheap, and the hefty markups make the purchase unwise. Of course, during shortages, honest sellers do not offer discounts. It's better to look at other AMD or Intel chips — they might actually have discounts that make them appealing.
