The Security Service of Ukraine demonstrated the testing of the first marine drone, which was manufactured thanks to a recent large-scale volunteer fundraising among Ukrainians. It was planned to raise almost 300 million hryvnias for the production of 35 Sea Baby drones.
The first sample in this batch was named "Avdeevka". It differs from the previous generation of marine drones both in appearance and technical characteristics.
"The Sea baby of 2024 is a drone of a new generation, improved and even more deadly for the enemy," - said in the SBU message.
The new SeaBaby 2024 features better maneuverability, a longer range, and the ability to carry a larger warhead. Recall, the previous generation of marine drones had a warhead weight of 850 kg (although versions with a warhead of 450 kg were also used) and could cover a distance of 1000 km. These drones have performed well. The SBU used them to undermine the Crimean Bridge and hit a total of 11 Russian military ships.
In the case of SeaBaby 2024, it is possible to deliver almost a ton of explosives over more than a thousand kilometers, says Brigadier General of the SBU "Hunter". At the same time, Igor Lachenkov clarifies that the new modification is capable of carrying over a ton of payload over a distance of more than 1110 km.
As "Hunter" states, the SBU envisioned this drone as a universal platform on which various weapons would be placed.
Now the "Avdeevka" model will undergo a full cycle of marine trials. During the process, the team of SBU developers will adapt the latest onboard weapons, specially designed and manufactured for use on multi-purpose platforms, such as Sea Baby.
