Some early Tesla Cybertruck owners report rust spots on their new cars made of stainless steel.
There is a misconception that stainless steel does not rust. This caused excitement among enthusiasts when Tesla introduced an electric pickup with a body made entirely of stainless steel. In fact, stainless steel, despite its name, can develop rust spots, although less pronounced compared to other types of steel.
There are different types of stainless steel with varying levels of rust resistance. Tesla claims to use its own 30X alloy for the Cybertruck, and most 30X brands rust to some extent.
Nevertheless, Tesla only started delivering Cybertrucks a few months ago, and owners did not expect the pickups to start rusting immediately. Owners have posted several photos of this.
It is noted that the Cybertruck forms orange rust spots when it rains, requiring the car to be polished. In fact, stainless steel can rust for various reasons, including damage or contact with aggressive environments.
Tesla recommends "immediately removing corrosive substances (such as grease, oil, bird droppings, tree sap, dead insects, tar spots, road salt, industrial deposits, etc.)" in its Cybertruck user manual.
So, to prevent rust spots from appearing on the Tesla Cybertruck, it is necessary to keep the car clean (which is a good idea for any car). Some owners also report that good results are achieved by using synthetic clay treatment. Ceramic coating can also be a reasonable option for long-term protection.
