SK hynix announces 300TB SSD and other technologies for data centers and AI

SK hynix announced at a press conference in Seoul that they are creating a massive 300TB SSD. The solid-state drive was unveiled as part of a wide portfolio of devices and technologies for data centers and AI.

The company believes that the total volume of data created worldwide in the era of artificial intelligence will increase to 660 Zettabytes (2 to the power of 70) by 2030 from 15 ZB in 2014. All of this data will need to be stored somewhere, and this is where 100TB HDDs and 300TB SSDs come into play.

It is currently unknown what data transmission interface the SK hynix 300TB SSD will operate on and what speed it will demonstrate, but such a drive could achieve an optimal balance of capacity, speed, energy consumption, and price per TB. The offering could make SK hynix's 300TB SSD a competitor to Nimbus Data's ExaDrive 3.5-inch drives that can store up to 100TB. The demand for high-capacity, high-performance drives in the coming years will increase, as will the need for large, fast data storage arrays.

In addition to the 300TB solid-state drives, SK Hynix is also working on implementing HBM4, HBM4E technologies, CXL unified memory solutions, and introducing high-capacity LPDDR6, GDDR7, PIM, and DDR5 memory.
