Qulcomm has presented the Snapdragon X Plus processor for Windows laptops, based on the same Oryon architecture as the Snapdragon X Elite. The company claims that it is capable of outperforming Apple's M3 chip and consumes less energy.

Later, the Snapdragon X Elite will appear in premium-class laptops, while Qualcomm has prepared the Snapdragon X Plus chip for a more affordable segment. The processor has 10 cores - six productive and four energy-efficient. Unlike the older model, Qualcomm did not implement an increase in the clock speed, but each core can operate at a speed of up to 3.40 GHz, provided that the temperature limit is observed. The processor also has 42 MB of cache and is built on a 4 nm TSMC process. The Snapdragon X Plus is equipped with an Adreno graphics chip with performance up to 3.8 TFLOPS and a neural processing unit (NPU) with performance of 45 TOPS.

The processor supports up to 64 GB of LPDDR5X 8448 MT/s memory. Laptops with Snapdragon X Plus will be able to receive better webcams with the help of the Qualcomm Spectra ISP image processor - one camera at 64 MP or two at 36 MP each. The chip can shoot 4K HDR video with a single camera. An advantage over Apple's Macbook will be the support for 5G laptops.

The Snapdragon X Plus features the Qualcomm Snapdragon X65 5G modem. The communication chip supports multiple bands and allows connection to most cellular networks worldwide. Other supported wireless standards are Qualcomm FastConnect 7800, Wi-Fi 7, and Bluetooth 5.4. Tests conducted by the company indicate that the Snapdragon X Plus can outperform Apple's M3 by about 10%, while being fifty percent more energy-efficient than its competitor.

When operating at maximum performance, the processor consumes approximately 54% less power than the Intel Core Ultra 7 155H or AMD Ryzen 9 7940HS. However, Qualcomm did not share gaming performance tests on performance slides, although earlier testing showed that the Snapdragon X Elite could achieve 30 frames per second in Baldur's Gate 3 at 1080p with low graphics settings. Since the Snapdragon X Plus likely has a weaker graphics card, it may not even reach the 30 frames per second mark in games, so Qualcomm probably does not mention these figures. The first Windows laptops based on the Snapdragon X Plus will be released in the second half of 2024.
