The US defense contractor - Teledyne FLIR company introduced a new thermal sniper scope that helps to see your own bullets flying during the day or night at a distance of up to 2200m. The ThermoSight HISS-HD thermal scope allows snipers and gunners to hit targets at long range while remaining unnoticed.

Today, snipers use specialized rifles and ammunition, complex optics and computer processors that process various variables such as wind force, air pressure, bullet initial velocity, bullet drop, and others, reports NewAtlas. However, despite all this, snipers and gunners still have to rely on the old and reliable method - tracer rounds. These are bullets with incendiary charge that are mixed with regular cartridges so that the sniper or gunner can determine the trajectory of the shot.

It works, but it also allows the enemy to see where the fire is coming from. ThermoSight HISS-HD allows the sniper to see shots at long range just like tracers, even in full daylight. This is achieved using an image sensor with a cryocooler that cools it to very low temperatures. This reduces thermal noise and increases resolution. As a result, with the help of modern processors, the sniper can directly see the thermal trace of the bullet in flight.

According to the company, this is not the first system with such capabilities, but the first in this industry that can operate with such high (but unspecified) resolution at such a long distance. The 2.1 kg HISS-HD scope can easily be mounted on any standard Picatinny rail according to MIL-STD-1913 standard and can be used with various optical sights and weapon systems.
